InCAS is a computer-adaptive assessment that helps you identify and diagnose learning needs. It helps you measure progress in key developmental areas, which research shows are important to later academic success, across the primary phase.
The assessment can be carried out once a year, and you can choose when you want to assess. You can use it formatively at the beginning of a school year, or to measure progress toward the end of a school year. You can also choose what you assess when - carry-out the entire assessment in one session or choose to assess different sections over a number of days – it’s up to you.
Every school has their own secure account through which they access the assessment and the feedback reports. The assessment can be completed online using the secure web shortcut, or downloaded to the local network or computer. We provide step by step guidance to help you set up and run the assessment.
Each child completes the assessment independently, working at a computer and guided by audio instructions, meaning it can be carried out with as many pupils as you can cater for. Feedback is available to download from the secure website within 48 hours.
InCAS reports support senior leaders, middle leaders and classroom teachers to transform pupil learning. Reports from the assessment are easy to understand, and provide:
The assessment is accompanied by two research-based booklets on diagnosing and remediating maths and literacy problems. The guidance illustrates how you can use the assessment reports to spot pupil profiles that may require further investigation.
We use InCAS as a consistent and independent baseline: it provides a stable measure of progress through curriculum change and exam reform.
InCAS provides a wealth of valuable pupil data, which feeds in to detailed learning plans we put together for each child.
InCAS helps us to identify those children that often hide their strengths in class.
We do the InCAS assessment every June, as we feel it allows us to get a better measure of progress made over the current academic year. This enables me to have a conversation with current teachers about progress for individual pupils as well as classes as a whole.
InCAS provides an objective measure of potential and progress that supports the conversations we have with parents about expectations and areas where support is needed.
InCAS gives us a benchmark as to see how our pupils compare with other pupils of the same age.
We use the InCAS data in our termly pupil progress meeting, alongside our own tracking data, to see how the children are progressing. It’s really useful to see any patterns or trends in the data.
